Measure Bing, the search index powering ChatGPT Search and Copilot

By AI-Advisors·AI Analytics·All plans

Bing's index powers ChatGPT Search and Microsoft Copilot, which makes your Bing performance an input to how AI assistants find and cite you. AI-Advisors pulls your Bing Webmaster Tools queries, pages, clicks, and impressions in with a single pasted API key - read-only, no OAuth, no Microsoft sign-in - and puts them head to head with Google Search Console.

Overview

Most marketing teams watch Google and stop there. But Bing's search index is what ChatGPT Search and Microsoft Copilot retrieve from, so the pages that perform on Bing shape a growing slice of AI-driven discovery. This integration pulls your Bing Webmaster Tools search performance into AI-Advisors, where Bing gets measured beside everything else instead of being checked occasionally in a separate tool.

The centerpiece is a dedicated Google vs Bing view: paired clicks and impressions cards with period-over-period deltas, a share line showing what percentage of your total search footprint Bing accounts for, a daily overlay chart, and side-by-side top queries and top landing pages - each engine labeled with its own data freshness and a deep link into its native report. Average position is deliberately kept out of the head-to-head because Bing reports it weekly while Google reports it daily, and a direct comparison would mislead; each engine's own query table still shows it.

Bing data also flows into the rest of the platform. Per-URL Bing clicks and impressions join GA4 sessions, Google Search Console data, AI-referral visits, and your latest AEO score in per-page intelligence, and a compact Bing card sits on the dashboard home beside the Google search card.

How it works

Google vs Bing head to head

One view puts both engines side by side: paired clicks and impressions cards with period-over-period deltas, a share line showing how much of your total search footprint Bing accounts for, a daily overlay chart with a clicks or impressions toggle, and side-by-side top-queries tables and top landing pages lists - each engine carrying its own freshness label and a deep link into its native report.

Daily metrics plus weekly query and page detail

Site-level clicks and impressions land per day, with CTR computed for you because Bing's API does not return one. Per-query and per-page clicks, impressions, and average impression position arrive on Bing's own weekly reporting cadence, dated to Saturdays.

Bing inside per-page intelligence

The analytics Pages view merges Bing clicks and impressions per URL with GA4 sessions, Google Search Console data, AI-referral visits, and the page's latest AEO score. Bing detail appears in each page's drill-down and in the CSV export, so a page that performs on Bing but draws no AI traffic stands out.

A Bing card on your dashboard home

A compact card shows Bing impressions and clicks with period-over-period deltas, sitting beside the Google search card. It stays hidden until Bing is connected and refreshes itself every 10 minutes.

One pasted key, read-only by construction

You generate an API key in your own Bing Webmaster Tools account and paste it in - no OAuth, no Microsoft sign-in. AI-Advisors validates the key against your verified sites before saving anything, and every call it makes afterwards is a read: it can never submit URLs, edit sitemaps, or change a setting in Bing.

Self-healing sync with health monitoring

Bing's API returns its full retained history on every call, so each sync re-pulls everything and backfills any days missed during an outage. The Settings row shows how recently data synced, flips to a Sync delayed warning after more than 2 days, and hides Bing data rather than showing stale numbers if the key stops working.

Set up

Setup is a single API key paste - no OAuth consent screens, no CSV exports, no field mapping.

An org owner or admin opens Settings, finds the Bing Webmaster Tools row under Integrations, and clicks Connect. The dialog asks for a Bing Webmaster API key and links to where you create one: in Bing Webmaster Tools, open Settings, then API Access, and generate a key. That one key covers every site verified in your Bing account.

Paste the key and click Save + verify. AI-Advisors validates it by listing your verified Bing sites before saving anything, so a bad key is caught immediately. Your verified site is selected for you - if the key covers several, the first one is picked - and the initial sync starts in the background.

Because Bing's API returns its full retained history, about 6 months, in a single call, that first sync is also the complete backfill. There is no waiting period: the Google vs Bing view, the dashboard card, and the per-page Bing columns fill with historical data within minutes of connecting.

Takes a few minutes

Data and permissions

The integration is read-only by construction: every call it makes to Bing is a read, and the pasted key is held server-side where the browser can never see it.

What we read
  • The list of sites verified in your Bing account - used only to validate the key and select a site
  • Daily site-level clicks and impressions
  • Weekly per-query clicks, impressions, and average impression position
  • Weekly per-page clicks, impressions, and average impression position
What we write
  • Nothing. The integration never writes to Bing Webmaster Tools - no URL submission, no sitemap changes, no settings changes.
What we never touch
  • Your Microsoft account credentials or password - there is no sign-in step, only the key you paste
  • Bing site settings, sitemap submission, URL submission, or crawl controls
  • Visitor-level or personal data - only aggregate search metrics are read
  • The key itself after saving - it is stored server-side per organization and is never sent back to the browser

No OAuth scopes are requested because Bing Webmaster Tools uses API-key authentication, not OAuth. The key you generate in Bing covers read access to all sites verified in that Bing account, and you can revoke it in Bing at any time.

Good to know

  • Available on all plans, including the AppSumo lifetime tiers - there is no plan gate on Bing.
  • One Bing connection per organization, with one selected site. Connecting and disconnecting require an owner or admin role; any member can view the data and run a manual sync.
  • Data updates on the platform's scheduled automatic sync plus an on-demand Sync now in Settings. Each sync re-pulls Bing's full retained history of about 6 months, so gaps self-heal.
  • Query-level and page-level data are weekly and Saturday-dated - that is Bing's reporting cadence, not the app's. Daily data covers clicks and impressions.
  • If no sync has run for more than 2 days, the Settings row shows an amber Sync delayed state with a one-click Sync now.
  • Disconnecting deletes the stored connection, including the API key, immediately. Nothing changes in your Bing Webmaster Tools account.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Bing matter for AI search visibility?

Bing's search index powers ChatGPT Search and Microsoft Copilot, so your Bing performance is an input to how AI assistants find and cite you. The integration puts Bing beside Google Search Console head to head - clicks, impressions, top queries, and top landing pages - and shows what share of your total search footprint Bing accounts for.

What does AI-Advisors read from Bing Webmaster Tools, and what does it write?

It reads four things: your verified site list (only to validate the key and pick a site), daily site-level clicks and impressions, weekly per-query stats, and weekly per-page stats. It writes nothing. Every call the integration makes is a read, so it cannot submit URLs, edit sitemaps, or change any setting in your Bing account.

Is this an OAuth connection? What permissions am I granting?

No OAuth and no Microsoft sign-in, so AI-Advisors never sees your Microsoft password. You paste a read-only API key that you generate inside Bing Webmaster Tools, scoped by Bing to the sites verified in your account. The key is validated against your verified sites, then stored server-side where the browser client can never read it. You can revoke it in Bing at any time.

Which plan do I need?

Any plan. The Bing Webmaster Tools integration is available on all AI-Advisors plans, including the AppSumo lifetime tiers. Connecting or disconnecting requires an owner or admin role in your workspace; other members can view the data and trigger a sync.

How long does setup take?

A few minutes. Generate an API key in Bing Webmaster Tools under Settings and API Access, paste it into AI-Advisors, and click Save + verify. The first sync starts automatically, and because Bing's API returns its full retained history of about 6 months in one call, that first sync is also the complete backfill - no waiting period.

How fresh is the data?

Daily clicks and impressions update with the platform's scheduled sync, and anyone on your team can run Sync now in Settings for fresh numbers. Query-level and page-level data update on Bing's own weekly reporting cadence, dated to Saturdays. If a sync has not run for more than 2 days, Settings shows a Sync delayed warning with a one-click fix.

What happens if I disconnect, or if my API key stops working?

Disconnecting deletes the stored connection, including the API key, immediately - nothing changes inside your Bing account. If the key is revoked or expires, the next sync flags the connection, and Bing cards and comparisons hide rather than showing stale data. Paste a fresh key via Update API key in Settings and the next successful sync clears the flag automatically.
