See every AI crawl of your WordPress site and fix issues from one inbox

By AI-Advisors·AI Automation·Growth+

The AI-Advisors WordPress plugin is a two-way bridge. Data flows up: server-side detection captures the AI crawler visits that JavaScript analytics can never see. Fixes flow down: AEO recommendations from your audits arrive in an inbox inside WordPress admin, where you review, apply, and undo them - no developer needed, and nothing changes on your site until you approve it.

Overview

Most AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript, so the snippet that measures your human visitors is blind to them. The plugin closes that gap at the server level: it recognizes 16+ AI crawler signatures - GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, and more - as they hit your site, and reports every crawl to AI Analytics with the URL path, status code, response size, and request timing. Human visits referred from AI platforms are captured the same way, UTM parameters included, without cookies or any client-side script.

Fixes travel the other direction. When an AEO audit finds something WordPress can put right - robots.txt rules, llms.txt, FAQ or Organization schema, heading rewrites, meta descriptions, or a blog draft - the recommendation appears in a WordPress inbox. You see each change before it is applied, applied changes can be undone, and drafts always land as WordPress drafts for a human to publish. Every applied fix is logged on your trend charts and triggers a follow-up audit that measures the score impact.

The connection is deliberately lightweight. There is no OAuth handshake and no password exchange: the plugin authenticates with a per-website domain key you copy from Settings, tracking stays off by default until you enable it, and only AI-related traffic is ever captured. Regular visitors are ignored entirely.

How it works

Server-side AI crawler and referral tracking

Detects 16+ AI crawler signatures - GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Bytespider, CCBot, and more - at the server level, traffic a JavaScript snippet cannot see because AI bots do not run JavaScript. Human visits referred from AI platforms are captured too, UTM parameters included, and everything feeds the same AI Analytics views as the snippet.

A review inbox for AEO fixes

Open recommendations from your audits appear inside WordPress admin, filtered to the seven fix types WordPress can act on: robots.txt rules, llms.txt, FAQ schema, Organization schema, heading rewrites, meta descriptions, and blog drafts. Each fix is shown before you apply it, and applied fixes can be undone.

One-click push from the AEO Action Plan

WordPress-applicable recommendations in the AEO module carry a push-to-WordPress action. One click sends the fix to that site's inbox, the recommendation moves to in-progress, and completion is reported back to the platform automatically once you apply it.

Content Studio drafts land in WordPress

A reviewed Content Studio draft can be sent to WordPress as a draft post, converted to clean HTML on the way. It always arrives as a WordPress draft - a human approves the final publish, every time.

Per-fix-type automation rules

On Growth and above, each of the seven fix types gets its own rule - auto-apply, queue for review, save as draft, or do nothing - saved per website. In the current plugin every change still lands in the inbox for your approval regardless of the rule, so nothing is ever applied unattended, and setting a type to do nothing hides it from the inbox entirely.

Your AEO score inside WordPress admin

The plugin shows your AEO score, its recent delta, and open issues by priority as an admin-bar badge and a dashboard widget, so the site's answer-engine health is visible where edits actually happen. The score is cached and re-fetched at most once an hour.

Automatic impact measurement

Applying a fix from WordPress logs a change marker on your trend charts (multiple fixes applied the same day batch into a single marker) and schedules a follow-up audit to measure the score impact, so cause and effect are recorded even if you never open the dashboard that day. WordPress-applied fixes are also attributed in your Weekly Update.

Set up

Setup is a key paste, not an integration project - no OAuth, no code changes, no developer.

Install the free AI-Advisors plugin from the WordPress plugin directory; it is linked from Settings > Integrations and from the AI Automation > WordPress tab in the app. Then open Settings > Tracking Setup in AI-Advisors and copy your website's WordPress domain key.

Paste the key into the plugin's settings screen in WordPress admin and enable tracking - tracking is off by default until you do both. The plugin batches events and sends them every 60 seconds, so the app flips to connected shortly after the first AI bot or AI referral hits your site, and crawls start appearing in AI Analytics.

On Growth or above, finish on the AI Automation > WordPress tab: set a rule for each of the seven fix types so recommendations arrive in your WordPress inbox the way you want them, and save. Organizations with multiple websites configure rules for each website separately.

Takes a few minutes

Data and permissions

There is no OAuth and no password exchange. The plugin authenticates with a per-website domain key sent over encrypted HTTPS, and the platform scopes every read and write to that one website. What flows up is AI traffic data; what flows down are the fixes you approve.

What we read
  • AI bot visits detected server-side: URL path, user agent, referrer, visitor IP address, status code, response size, and request timing
  • AI referral visits: landing page, referrer, and UTM parameters
  • Action outcomes from the inbox: whether each recommendation was applied, dismissed, or undone
What we write
  • Additive robots.txt rules for AI crawlers, reversible
  • An llms.txt file generated from your own pages
  • FAQ and Organization schema markup as JSON-LD
  • Heading rewrites and meta description updates
  • Blog posts saved as drafts, never published - and every write is applied by you from the WordPress inbox
What we never touch
  • Regular human visitor traffic - only AI bot and AI referral visits are captured
  • WordPress admin screens and background requests, which are excluded from tracking
  • Sensitive query parameters - passwords, tokens, and card-like values are redacted before anything is queued
  • Your WordPress admin credentials - never requested, never stored
  • Publishing - the plugin never publishes content on its own

No OAuth scopes are requested because there is no OAuth: authentication is the per-website domain key from Settings > Tracking Setup, sent over HTTPS with certificate verification. The platform validates the key against your website record and rejects anything outside that website's scope.

Good to know

  • The plugin is free in the WordPress plugin directory, and three local tools work with no AI-Advisors account at all: AI bot rules for robots.txt, an llms.txt generator built from your own pages, and Organization schema.
  • Server-side tracking works on every plan once your domain key is in place. The automation rules require Growth or Enterprise; Starter users see all seven rules but can select only save as draft or do nothing.
  • Tracking events are batched and sent every 60 seconds, up to 500 at a time, so crawls appear in your dashboard within about a minute of happening.
  • The app shows the plugin as connected after its first AI bot or AI referral event arrives - installing the plugin alone does not flip the status.
  • Applied fixes are logged as markers on your trend charts, and a follow-up audit runs automatically to measure each fix's score impact.
  • There is no disconnect button in the app: deactivating or uninstalling the plugin in WordPress stops all sending, and your dashboard history stays intact.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a paid plan to use the WordPress plugin?

The plugin itself is free in the WordPress plugin directory, and its local tools - AI bot rules for robots.txt, an llms.txt generator, and Organization schema - work with no account at all. Server-side AI bot tracking works on any AI-Advisors plan once you paste in your domain key. The per-fix-type automation rules require Growth or Enterprise and are not included in AppSumo lifetime plans; Starter users can still install the plugin and use the save-as-draft and do-nothing options.

Will the plugin change my site without asking?

No. Every fix appears in a WordPress inbox where you review it before applying, and applied changes can be undone. The current plugin applies nothing automatically - even a fix type set to auto-apply waits in the inbox for your approval. Blog drafts always land as WordPress drafts, and you decide whether to publish.

What data does the plugin send to AI-Advisors?

Only AI-related traffic. When an AI bot or AI referral visit is detected, the plugin sends the URL path, user agent, referrer, IP address, status code, response size, request timing, and UTM parameters over encrypted HTTPS. Regular human visitors are ignored, WordPress admin and background requests are excluded, sensitive query parameters like passwords and tokens are redacted first, and the plugin sets no cookies and adds no client-side script.

Why do I need server-side tracking if I already installed the JavaScript snippet?

AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot do not execute JavaScript, so a JavaScript snippet never sees them. The plugin detects them at the server level - 16+ AI crawler signatures - and records every crawl with its status code, response size, and timing. The two work together: the snippet covers human AI referrals in the browser, the plugin covers the crawlers.

Does AI-Advisors get access to my WordPress admin account?

No. There is no OAuth and no password exchange. The plugin authenticates with a per-website domain key copied from Settings > Tracking Setup and sent over HTTPS with certificate verification. Your WordPress credentials are never shared with the platform.

How long does setup take?

A few minutes across three steps: install the plugin from the WordPress plugin directory, copy your WordPress domain key from Settings > Tracking Setup in the app, and paste it into the plugin's settings screen. Tracking data is batched and sent every 60 seconds, so crawler visits start appearing in your dashboard shortly after the first AI bot hits your site.

What happens if I uninstall the plugin?

All sending stops, and deleting the plugin removes its local tables, options, and cached data from your site. One exception: if the plugin wrote a physical llms.txt file to your web root, undo that fix from the inbox before deleting if you want it removed. Your historical AI traffic data in the AI-Advisors dashboard is not deleted.
