Manage ChatGPT Ads campaigns and measure conversions OpenAI doesn't report

By AI-Advisors·AI Ads·Growth+

AI-Advisors is a working console for ChatGPT Ads plus the measurement layer OpenAI does not provide. Connect your Advertiser API key to create, edit, pause, duplicate, and archive campaigns with performance synced daily, and install the Measurement Pixel in one click through Google Tag Manager to pair your spend with the lead-form conversions ChatGPT Ads reporting does not return.

Overview

This integration turns AI-Advisors into a working ChatGPT Ads console. Connect your Advertiser API key and every campaign, ad group, and ad syncs into a familiar four-tab manager - including entities you created natively in ChatGPT's Ads Manager - with daily campaign performance (impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC, CPM) alongside them. From there you create, edit, pause, duplicate, and archive without leaving your dashboard.

The pixel half closes the loop. ChatGPT Ads reporting does not return conversions, so AI-Advisors measures them itself: a one-click install pushes OpenAI's Measurement Pixel into your Google Tag Manager container, and first-party tracking matches visitors who arrive from your ads to the lead forms they submit on your site. The result is conversion counts, top converting forms, and cost per conversion paired with your synced spend - numbers you cannot get from ChatGPT Ads alone.

Because it lives inside AI-Advisors, your paid channel connects to your organic one. Every campaign launch is marked on your visibility and citation trend charts, a Citation Lift panel compares citation share before and after each launch, and the built-in Ads Advisor flags operational problems like rejected ads and campaigns that cannot deliver - while never touching your budgets or bids.

How it works

Full campaign management

A four-tab entity manager (Overview, Campaigns, Ad Groups, Ads) with per-row Active toggles, bulk Activate, Pause, and Archive, edit modals, and cross-tab filtering. One-click Duplicate deep-clones a campaign's full tree into a paused copy, so nothing spends until you say so.

Create campaigns end to end

A three-step wizard launches a real campaign through OpenAI's API: Reach or Clicks objective, country targeting, daily or campaign-total budget, and image upload, chained through campaign, ad group, and ad creation and mirrored instantly into your dashboard. The ad editor shows a live ChatGPT sponsored-card preview built from your brand name and logo, with creative checks for title length (3 to 50 characters), body length (up to 100 characters), a call-to-action nudge, and image presence.

Daily performance sync

A daily job imports campaigns, ad groups, and ads - including entities created natively in ChatGPT's Ads Manager - plus daily impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC, and CPM at the account and campaign level (ad-group and ad-level metrics are not reported yet). Each run re-pulls the last 7 days to capture the revisions OpenAI can make after delivery.

One-click Measurement Pixel install

Pushes OpenAI's Measurement Pixel into your Google Tag Manager container as a draft tag that loads near the top of the page. A verify action checks your published container and flips the status from Draft to live, and a copy-paste snippet is available when GTM is not connected.

First-party conversion tracking

ChatGPT Ads reporting does not return conversions, so AI-Advisors measures them itself: visitors arriving from your ads are matched to lead-form submissions on your site, producing conversion counts, top converting forms, and cost per conversion paired with your synced spend.

A watchdog for rejected ads

A rejected ad silently stops serving. Every sync polls review status for ads still in review, and the Overview shows an 'N ads rejected and not serving' callout that deep-links to the Ads tab pre-filtered to the ads that need attention.

Citation Lift attribution

When a campaign goes active, a launch marker is logged automatically and rendered on your visibility and citation trend charts, and a Citation Lift panel compares your citation share in the 7 days before and after each launch - connecting paid spend to organic AI visibility.

Set up

Setup has two independent halves - the Measurement Pixel for conversion tracking and the Advertiser API key for campaign management. Either works alone, and both connect from Settings without code.

An org owner or admin opens Settings, finds the ChatGPT Ads row under Integrations, and clicks Connect to install the Measurement Pixel: enter your Pixel ID and pick a Google Tag Manager container for the one-click push, or skip the container to get a copy-paste snippet instead. Publish your GTM workspace, then choose Verify pixel is live from the row menu - the status moves from Draft to live once the tag is confirmed in your published container.

From the same row menu, choose Connect Advertiser API key and paste the key from your ChatGPT Ads Manager settings. The key is validated against your ad account before it is ever stored - a bad key is rejected and never saved.

Data then syncs automatically every day. Click Sync now for an on-demand refresh, and manage everything under AI Ads across the Overview, Campaigns, Ad Groups, and Ads tabs. If you want to explore first, demo mode seeds realistic sample campaigns with 30 days of metrics and wipes itself on your first real sync.

Takes a few minutes

Data and permissions

The integration reads what it needs to mirror your ad account and writes only what you explicitly create, edit, or trigger. Your Advertiser API key is stored server-side only and is never sent to the browser.

What we read
  • Ad account details: name, currency, and timezone, used to verify your key and label the connection
  • Campaigns: name, status, start and end times, budget, and targeting
  • Ad groups: name, status, and bid settings
  • Ads: creative title, body, target URL, review status, and image reference
  • Daily performance at account and campaign level: impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC, and CPM
What we write
  • Campaigns, ad groups, and ads you launch or add from the app - new ad groups and ads always start paused
  • Edits you make: campaign name, budget amount, and locations; ad group settings; ad names and creatives
  • State changes you trigger: activate, pause, and archive
  • Ad images, uploaded to OpenAI to obtain the creative reference your ads use
  • On your own site, optionally: OpenAI's Measurement Pixel, pushed into your GTM container as a draft tag that you publish yourself
What we never touch
  • Budgets or bids on their own - there are no automated spend changes of any kind
  • Your OpenAI billing or payment details - never requested
  • Conversion data from OpenAI - the API does not offer it, so conversions are measured first-party on your own site
  • Your Advertiser API key in the browser - it never leaves the server

ChatGPT Ads connects with an Advertiser API key issued in your ChatGPT Ads Manager settings - there is no OAuth flow, and the key is validated against your ad account before it is stored. The optional pixel install uses your existing Google Tag Manager connection and its permission to edit containers.

Good to know

  • Launching campaigns requires the Growth or Enterprise plan, enforced server-side; every AppSumo lifetime tier includes the ChatGPT Ads toolkit.
  • Sync runs automatically once a day and re-pulls the last 7 days each run; manual syncs are limited to 6 per hour per organization.
  • The pixel and the API key are independent halves - connect either one alone or both together.
  • New ad groups and ads created in the app start paused, so nothing spends until you activate it. Archiving is one-way and sits behind a confirmation.
  • Metrics run through yesterday (UTC); today's partial numbers arrive on the next sync.
  • Demo mode seeds sample campaigns with 30 days of metrics so you can explore the module, and wipes itself automatically on the first real sync.

Frequently asked questions

What plan do I need for ChatGPT Ads?

Launching campaigns requires Growth or Enterprise, enforced on the server. Every AppSumo lifetime tier includes the ChatGPT Ads toolkit. Starter does not include campaign launching.

How long does setup take?

A few minutes. The pixel installs in one click if Google Tag Manager is connected (you then publish the workspace), and the Advertiser API key is a single paste from your ChatGPT Ads Manager settings - it is verified against your ad account before it is saved.

Can AI-Advisors change my budgets or bids?

No. You set budgets and bids when you create or edit a campaign, and the platform never changes them on its own. Even the built-in Ads Advisor is limited to setup, operations, and creative advice - never budget recommendations. New ad groups and ads are created paused so nothing spends by surprise.

What data does it read from my ChatGPT Ads account?

Campaigns, ad groups, and ads - names, statuses, budgets, targeting, creatives, and review status - plus daily impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC, and CPM. It never reads your billing or payment details.

How does conversion tracking work if OpenAI does not report conversions?

First-party, on your own site. Visitors who arrive carrying OpenAI's ad-click reference are matched to the lead forms they submit, producing conversion counts, top converting forms, and cost per conversion paired with your synced spend. Nothing is modeled or estimated.

How often does data sync?

Automatically once a day, re-pulling the last 7 days each run to capture the revisions OpenAI can make after delivery. Anyone on your team can also click Sync now, up to 6 times per hour per organization. Metrics run through yesterday (UTC), and today's partial data arrives on the next run.

What happens if I disconnect?

Removing the API key deletes the stored key and account details immediately; your synced campaign history stays in your dashboard. Disconnecting the pixel removes the tag from your GTM workspace where it can and deep-links you to publish the removal. Your ChatGPT Ads account itself is not changed.
