All six ChatGPT ad mockup tools in this comparison are free, and they differ less on looks than on how much of OpenAI's rulebook they get right. We tested six against OpenAI's own documentation: character limits, image requirements, whether you can edit the conversation, the views they offer, and how you get the image out. AI-Advisors is our product and it is on this list; every claim about another tool comes from that tool's own page, checked on October 12 or 13, 2026.
- Best for matching OpenAI's published specs: AI-Advisors
- Best for seeing real ads before you write yours: ChatGPT Ad Library
- Best for a first draft from your domain: Pingaura (not tested hands-on)
- Best for a quick preview from just a domain: PixelSERP
- Best for agencies that already review Google and Meta ads with clients: PPC Ad Editor
- Best for testing two versions side by side: Ridoway
How we chose and tested these tools
A tool made the list if it passed three filters: it is free to use, it previews a ChatGPT ad unit rather than a generic chat screenshot, and it works in a browser today. Six did. We used each one in a browser on October 12 and 13, 2026, with a fictional brand, Blaze CRM, and without submitting anything to the vendor. Pingaura is the exception: it only works by sending your domain to its servers, so we describe it from its own page and say so wherever it matters.
We then measured each tool against what OpenAI documents, not against each other:
- Limits. Does it enforce OpenAI's 50-character title and 100-character copy maximums?
- Recommended lengths. Does it show OpenAI's much shorter recommended ranges, which is where most ads should land?
- Image rule. Does it reflect OpenAI's square PNG or JPG requirement, up to 1200 x 1200 pixels?
- Context. Can you edit the question and the answer your ad sits under, and see it on mobile and desktop?
- Getting it out. Can you download the image, and do you need an account to do it?
One thing we deliberately did not score: the small label next to the advertiser name and which side the image sits on. OpenAI's documentation shows "Sponsored" with the image on the right; several of these tools render "Ad" with the image on the left, and one says its layout matches a screenshot of a served ad. Ad interfaces change faster than documentation, so we left layout out of the comparison rather than guess.
What OpenAI actually documents about ChatGPT ads
According to OpenAI's Help Center, ads appear below ChatGPT's responses and each one includes six elements: the advertiser name, a favicon, a title, ad copy, an image, and a landing page. That is the whole creative. There is no headline stack, no long description, and in the documented format no button. If you want the mechanics of how an ad gets matched to a conversation, our explainer on how ChatGPT ads work covers it.
The limits are short. OpenAI's bulk upload checklist caps titles at 50 characters and copy at 100, and recommends 16 to 24 characters for titles and 32 to 48 for copy. The annotated example ad in the Help Center goes further: "Aim for 16 characters" in the headline and 32 in the description. Images must be square PNG or JPG files no larger than 1200 x 1200 pixels, and the same example advises against using your logo as the main visual.
OpenAI's Ads API names two creative types, a standard chat card and a product ad template, and OpenAI says product ads can show "product images, titles, stars, prices, sales prices, and your brand." The carousels, stock labels, and "Chat with" links you see in some mockup tools come from the concept images OpenAI published when it announced ads in January 2026, which it described as what its first formats "could look like."
OpenAI's own previews live inside an Ads Manager account. A mockup tool works before you have one.
OpenAI does offer previews, but only inside an account: its Ads API can preview an ad once it exists, and that preview expires 24 hours after it is made, while Ads Manager shows a sample preview as you set up a product-feed campaign. Before you have an account and a campaign, a mockup tool is the only way to see your ad in context.
The 6 best ChatGPT ad mockup tools
Listed alphabetically. Each tool gets a "best for" label instead of a rank, because they are built for different jobs and the right one depends on yours. The comparison table below puts them side by side.
AI-Advisors: best for matching OpenAI's published specs
Disclosure: this is our tool. The ChatGPT Ads Mockup Generator is built around OpenAI's documentation. Its counters stop at 50 and 100 characters and flag anything longer than OpenAI's recommended 16 to 24 and 32 to 48, it warns if an uploaded image is not square, larger than 1200 x 1200, or not a PNG or JPG, and it fetches your favicon from the landing page you enter. You can edit both the question and ChatGPT's answer, switch between mobile and desktop and light and dark, and download a PNG or copy it with no sign-up. A carousel option is included and labeled as a concept, since it recreates OpenAI's January 2026 mockups rather than a documented format.
What it does not do, plainly: there is no product ad format, no A/B variants, no AI-written drafts, no library of real ads, and no share link. Emailing yourself the mockup is optional and adds your address to our contact list. Best for: checking a draft against OpenAI's rules before you take it into Ads Manager.
ChatGPT Ad Library: best for seeing real ads before you write yours
The mockup tool sits on a site that describes itself as "a live, public database of the sponsored cards showing up inside ChatGPT," with category pages listing hundreds of brands each. That library is the reason to start here: you can see what advertisers in your category actually run before you write a line. The mockup generator offers a chat card or a product card with a price, stock status, and delivery estimate, in light or dark. It counts against 50 and 100 characters and suggests keeping titles "around 25 characters" and copy "around 48," a little longer than OpenAI's recommended ranges.
Two limits: it previews the card on its own, with no conversation or device frame around it, and downloading the image requires a free account. Its image guidance (at least 256 pixels, WEBP accepted) goes beyond what OpenAI documents. Best for: competitive research before you write.
Pingaura: best for a first draft from your domain
Pingaura is the only tool here that writes the ad for you. According to its ChatGPT Ad Preview page, you enter a domain and nothing else, it reads your homepage to "work out what you sell, who buys it, and which buyer prompts an ad could be served against," and it drafts three ads in the card layout, counted against OpenAI's 50 and 100 character limits. It is candid about the output: "Treat it as a starting point. It is drafted from your homepage alone."
We did not test it hands-on, because using it means sending a domain to Pingaura's servers, so we cannot speak to the quality of the drafts or what you can do with them afterwards. The tool is part of an AI visibility platform with a paid tier. Best for: getting past a blank page, as long as you edit the drafts against your real offer.
PixelSERP: best for a quick preview from just a domain
PixelSERP's ChatGPT ads simulator is a quick route to a believable picture. By its own description, typing a domain as the brand name fetches that site's favicon, and you can switch between desktop and mobile in light or dark. It counts against 50 and 100 characters and, unlike the tools that stop you at the limit, lets you keep typing while marking the overflow, which is useful for seeing exactly how much needs to go. It says everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.
The trade-offs: you write the question but not the answer, which it fills in with a stock reply; images go in by URL rather than upload; and getting the result out means copying it as an image, with no download button. It shows no recommended lengths or image rules. Best for: a fast visual for a slide when you already know the copy fits.
PPC Ad Editor: best for agencies that already review Google and Meta ads with clients
PPC Ad Editor's mockup generator has the most complete set of views here: the ad on its own, a phone running ChatGPT, and a desktop browser with the chat sidebar. Its counters stop each field at OpenAI's limits, and the fields mirror the ones you fill in Ads Manager, including an internal ad name and a destination link with a reminder to add UTMs. It does not write copy, and it says so.
Two limits matter. The sample conversation is fixed, so you cannot test your ad against your own buyer's question, and there is no download: the page tells you to take a screenshot. Its client share links and comments, the core of its main product, cover Google, Meta, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and by its own account "ChatGPT ads are not one of them." Best for: agencies already using PPC Ad Editor for other channels.
Ridoway: best for testing two versions side by side
Ridoway's ChatGPT Ad Preview Studio has the deepest feature set for comparing creative. An A/B tab gives you two full variant editors, an Ad Triggers tab lets you list the buyer questions your ad should appear on, and you can build a product ad with up to three products (price and stock status each) or a service ad with a "Chat with" button. The PNG export is free with no sign-up, carries a small "Made with Ridoway" mark, and the tool says it runs entirely in your browser.
It previews on a phone only and shows no character counters: product titles and descriptions stop at 50 and 100 characters, but the main headline field accepts 60. Like ChatGPT Ad Library, it suggests titles "around 25 characters" and a 256-pixel image minimum, neither of which comes from OpenAI's documentation. Ridoway also offers a ChatGPT Ads agency service and a free WordPress plugin for OpenAI's conversion pixel. Best for: testing two angles before you commit budget, which matters because OpenAI recommends several distinct ads per offering.

Open the ChatGPT Ads Mockup Generator →Which tool should you use?
- For a pitch deck or stakeholder buy-in, you need a clean image you can download: AI-Advisors or Ridoway, or PixelSERP if copying to the clipboard is enough.
- For client approval, PPC Ad Editor fits if your agency already reviews Google and Meta ads there, with the caveat that ChatGPT mockups are screenshot-only.
- Before you write anything, browse ChatGPT Ad Library to see what your category already runs.
- For testing angles, Ridoway's A/B tab is the only side-by-side option here.
- Staring at a blank page, Pingaura's drafts are a starting point; check them against the limits before you use them.
- Before you upload to Ads Manager, run your final copy and image through AI-Advisors to catch anything past OpenAI's recommended lengths or image rules.
What a mockup can't tell you
A mockup tells you whether your ad fits. It cannot tell you whether it will work.
Whether your ad shows up at all depends on the conversation. OpenAI matches ads using signals that include the conversation itself and the context hints you write, which it says are not exact-match keywords. Our guide to writing context hints covers that side. Three practical checks belong next to any mockup:
- Your landing page has to let OpenAI's crawler in. OpenAI's crawler guidance for advertisers is blunt: "You must allow OAI-AdsBot." Our free AI Bot Checker shows whether your robots.txt does, and our explainer on OAI-AdsBot covers firewalls and bot protection.
- Tag the link before you launch. OpenAI lets you add UTM parameters to each creative's URL. Our guide to UTM codes for ChatGPT Ads sets out the convention we use.
- Budget for the minimum. OpenAI documents a per-campaign minimum daily budget that varies by billing currency, 25 USD per day for US dollar accounts as of October 2026. The cost breakdown covers bids and pricing.
If you are already converting Google Ads campaigns, our Google Ads to ChatGPT Ads converter turns keywords into context hints, and our comparison of ChatGPT Ads management platforms covers the tools that run campaigns once the creative is ready.
A closer look at the AI-Advisors generator
Everything above applies one set of checks to six tools. This section is different and labeled as such: it is our own tool, with screenshots of what it exports. Skip it if you only came for the comparison.
The desktop view puts the ad where a buyer would meet it: below a full answer, in a browser window with the chat sidebar. Both the question and the answer are yours to write, so you can test the ad against the exact conversation you are targeting rather than a canned sample.
On a phone the same card has far less room, which is where OpenAI's recommended lengths earn their keep: a 19-character title like "CRM for small teams" sits on one line, while a 44-character one wraps onto two. The generator flags anything past OpenAI's recommended range while you type, so you find out before the ad is in review.
Tools that come up but don't preview ChatGPT ads
Search for a ChatGPT ad preview and these appear too. Both are real, free tools; neither previews a ChatGPT ad unit.
- PaidSync's ad preview tool covers Google, Meta Feed, Meta Reels, LinkedIn, and TikTok. There is no ChatGPT format.
- AdSights' ChatGPT Mockup Generator makes realistic ChatGPT conversation screenshots for demos and decks. Useful for showing a chat, but it has no sponsored ad unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
#What is the best free ChatGPT ad mockup tool?
It depends on the job. To check a draft against OpenAI's published limits and image rules, AI-Advisors' ChatGPT Ads Mockup Generator was the only tool we tested hands-on that flags OpenAI's recommended lengths and checks uploaded images (AI-Advisors is our product). For researching real ads, ChatGPT Ad Library; for testing two versions, Ridoway; for client review alongside Google and Meta ads, PPC Ad Editor. All six tools in this comparison are free to use.
#Is there an official ChatGPT ad preview tool?
Not before you have an account. OpenAI's previews live inside Ads Manager: its Ads API can preview an ad you have already created, and that preview expires 24 hours after it is made, while Ads Manager shows a sample preview as you set up a product-feed campaign. Before that point, a third-party mockup tool is the only way to see your ad in context. None of the tools in this comparison is affiliated with OpenAI.
#What are the character limits for ChatGPT ads?
OpenAI allows ad titles of up to 50 characters and ad copy of up to 100 characters, and recommends much shorter: 16 to 24 characters for titles and 32 to 48 for copy. Its annotated example ad suggests aiming for about 16 and 32. Most tools in this comparison stop or warn at 50 and 100, and only one of the tools we tested hands-on flags the recommended ranges as you type.
#What image size do ChatGPT ads use?
OpenAI requires square PNG or JPG images no larger than 1200 x 1200 pixels, and advises against using your logo as the main visual. Some mockup tools state a 256-pixel minimum or accept WEBP files; OpenAI's documentation mentions neither, so check your image against OpenAI's rule before you upload it to Ads Manager.
#Can a mockup tool write my ChatGPT ad copy?
One in this comparison tries: Pingaura says it reads your homepage and drafts three ads, which we did not test. The others only show how copy you write will fit. OpenAI's own Ads Manager may offer suggested ad drafts, but OpenAI says they are prefilled from your website's metadata and do not generate new copy or imagery with AI.
#Do any mockup tools show ChatGPT product ads?
Yes. ChatGPT Ad Library and Ridoway both render product cards with a price and stock status. OpenAI documents that product ads can show product images, titles, star ratings, prices, sale prices, and your brand. The stock and delivery details some tools add appear in the concept mockups OpenAI published in January 2026, not in its current product ad documentation.
#How accurate are ChatGPT ad mockups?
Treat any mockup as an approximation. The checks you can rely on are the ones OpenAI documents: the 50 and 100 character limits, the recommended lengths, and the square image rule. Smaller details, such as whether the label next to the advertiser name reads "Ad" or "Sponsored" and which side the image sits on, vary between tools, and ChatGPT's interface can change faster than documentation does.
